Blinds boxes

Boxes for external blinds are used to protect and conceal the blinds, ensuring an aesthetic appearance of the façade and extending the lifespan of the shading system.

An essential component of external blinds are the blind boxes, also known as cover sheets or boxes for external blinds. If you are building or renovating, we recommend choosing the integrated version into the façade. If the façade is already finished, you can opt for the so-called exposed version. However, the exposed version can also be part of the architectural plan, as precisely crafted boxes for blinds can create an interesting design element of the building. It is important to focus on the quality processing of the boxes.

The production of blind boxes by K-system involves processing alloy plates with a thickness of 1.5 mm, which are also used in the automotive and aerospace industries. These plates are cut and bent using high-pressure equipment and are then surface-treated with RAL color coatings. Their quality cannot be confused with colored aluminum or steel sheets shaped on rolling machines. We manufacture custom cover sheets, including atypical modifications and side panels.

Advantages of boxes for external blinds:

  • Protection of blinds – protects the mechanism and slats from weather impacts (rain, snow, dust).
  • Thermal insulation – prevents the formation of thermal bridges and reduces heat loss in buildings.
  • High strength and stability – well-resistant to pressure and mechanical loads.
  • Resistance to moisture and mold – do not absorb water, making them ideal for construction structures.
  • Improved acoustics – helps dampen exterior noise.
  • Aesthetic integration – allows for an elegant and discreet shading solution, especially in recessed versions.
  • Plastering or covering option – allows for aesthetic integration into the façade.
  • Burglary protection – enhances security by covering the control elements of the blinds.
  • Increased safety – makes it difficult to access the upper channel of the blinds, where elements under electric current are located.

Types of boxes for external blinds:

  • Recessed (hidden) boxes – integrated into the façade, remaining invisible. They combine high insulation and a sturdy structure, ideal for low-energy houses.
  • Exposed (visible) boxes – mounted on the finished façade or in the window opening.

Shapes of blind boxes:

  • Single-sided cover sheets – version 1P exposed or 1Z plastered.
  • Double-sided cover sheets – version 3P exposed or 3Z plastered.

The best solution – elimination of thermal bridges by using Styrodur

Styrodur (XPS – extruded polystyrene) is often used as insulation for aluminum blind boxes because it has good thermal insulating properties and high strength. The back side of the box in the façade area is most commonly covered with Styrodur, interrupting the thermal bridge. However, Styrodur can be used around the entire box to enhance the thermal efficiency of the whole structure. If you want a strong and durable insulation for the aluminum box, Styrodur is the right and cost-effective choice. Advantages of combining the blind box and Styrodur:

  • Low thermal conductivity – insulates better than conventional EPS (expanded polystyrene).
  • High strength – is stiffer and less prone to compression.
  • Low absorbency – does not absorb water, making it ideal for outdoor applications.
  • Easy processability – can be easily cut and adapted to different constructions.

Comparison of Styrodur with other insulation materials:

Material Thermal conductivity (W/mK) Absorbency Strength Price
Styrodur (XPS) 0,030 – 0,035 Very low High Medium
PIR/PUR dosky 0,022 – 0,028 Almost none Stredná Higher
Minerálna vlna 0,035 – 0,040 Medium Low Stredná
EPS (polystyrén) 0,036 – 0,040 Higher Medium Low

By using a combination of aluminum blind boxes and Styrodur, you achieve high insulation and a sturdy construction. This minimizes the risk of heat loss and ensures the energy efficiency of the house. This solution is suitable not only for use in low-energy homes.

We specialize in the custom manufacturing of blind boxes for exterior blinds, tailored to any recessed solution. We produce custom-made boxes for blinds with high resistance to pressure, temperature, and moisture, suitable for all types of exterior blinds. When choosing a supplier, we recommend considering not only the price but also the quality of materials and services to ensure that the blind boxes meet your insulation and aesthetic requirements.
