Insect nets for allergy sufferers

There are more and more allergy sufferers and asthmatics in Slovakia. It is the most common chronic disease in Europe. Doctors estimate that by 2025, half of the European population will suffer from allergies. The most common types of allergies are insect allergies and pollen allergies.

Therefore, we gladly accepted the collaboration offer from our foreign partner, whose pollen-proof mesh was the only one successfully certified by the European Centre for Allergy Research (ECARF). The tested textile material shows very high effectiveness in stopping pollen particles floating in the air. The pollen-proof mesh almost completely blocked allergenic pollen from birch and grass with an efficiency of 97% and 100%, respectively. Even very small nettle pollen was almost completely prevented from entering through the window when equipped with a pollen filter. Similarly, ragweed pollen was stopped by the pollen filtration material. According to these results, the pollen-proof mesh from the K-system brand is ideal for offering allergy sufferers effective protection from pollen in the outdoor air.

What benefits do allergy nets offer?

K-system insect nets with pollen-proof mesh offer the following benefits:

• they prevent the entry of insects,
• they prevent the entry of pollen and other airborne particles,
• they offer a perfect view,
• they provide a high level of light permeability,
• they offer relatively high air permeability.

The relatively high air permeability, compared to the very low air permeability of the RESPILON membrane, is considered a huge advantage. Patients with hay fever can thus ventilate their rooms during the day without worry and enjoy a good night's sleep with the window open.

Maintenance of pollen-proof mesh

The mesh should be regularly cleaned at least once a month by rinsing with water or vacuuming. The mesh manufacturer recommends cleaning the mesh much more intensively during the pollen season. On the other hand, during the winter season, when there is no pollen, maintenance is not necessary.

Insect nets for windows and doors with pollen-proof mesh

The pollen-proof mesh is part of the offering for the Ideal, Supernova, and OSU window insect screens. For door screens, it can be ordered together with hinged screens DSU, DSU with a frame, and Luxalex. The mesh can also be used with sliding door screens Luxalex, but with size limitations due to the maximum width of the mesh roll. Unfortunately, the use of pollen-proof mesh is not possible in pleated and roll-up screens.

Main pollen allergens and seasonality

The following allergens are responsible for the majority of pollen-related illnesses:

• birch pollen with an average diameter of 19 to 22 µm (season from March to April),
• grass pollen with an average diameter of 20 to 40 µm, including all types of wild sweet grasses (season from May to September),
• nettle pollen with an average diameter of 13 to 15 µm (season from June to September),
• ragweed pollen with an average diameter of 17 to 18 µm (from August to October).
